Galle

Explore Galle, home to the UNESCO-listed Galle Fort, colonial architecture, historic streets, coastal views and southern Sri Lankan culture.

Galle is a major destination on Sri Lanka’s southern coast, best known for the UNESCO-listed Galle Fort. Beyond the fort, visitors can combine a Galle trip with beaches, coastal attractions, cafés and nearby towns.

Galle Fort

The historic fort area is best explored on foot, with ramparts, old streets, churches, colonial-era buildings, cafés, restaurants and small shops. The lighthouse and sea-facing fort walls are among the most recognisable sights.

Beaches and nearby attractions

Galle is within easy reach of southern coastal destinations including Unawatuna, Hikkaduwa and Koggala. Visitors can combine the fort with beach time, a boat safari or other coastal activities.
