Sigiriya

Visit Sigiriya, home to the iconic Lion Rock Fortress, ancient ruins, frescoes, gardens and spectacular views across central Sri Lanka.

Sigiriya is one of Sri Lanka’s most visited attractions, centred on the ancient rock fortress rising above the surrounding forests and gardens. The site combines archaeological remains, landscaped gardens, rock paintings and wide views over the Cultural Triangle.

Climbing Sigiriya Rock

Reaching the summit involves a substantial climb using stairways and passages cut into the rock. Early morning is generally more comfortable for the climb, especially during warmer months, and visitors should carry water and wear suitable footwear.

Things to see around Sigiriya

The surrounding area offers village experiences, traditional meals, cycling and wildlife safaris at nearby parks such as Minneriya. Pidurangala Rock is another popular viewpoint, particularly for views towards Sigiriya itself.
